The Seven Cousins Cottage Rules and Safety Notices are made a part of the Rental Agreement between Landlord and Tenant.
Seven Cousins Cottage Rules and Safety Notices
1) WARNING:
Death or injury may occur from sitting or climbing on the stair and
deck railing. Do not sit, climb, or put feet on the railings. Maintain a “hands only” rule for the stair and deck railings.
2)
Before kids or adults are turned loose on bikes or on foot, be sure
everyone understands the nature of the 2-way traffic immediately in
front of our Cottage, in addition to the 1-way southbound ferry
lanes. Always look both ways before you cross each lane!
3) Discharging fireworks, sparklers, or firearms, throwing or launching water balloons or other destructive objects is prohibited by the Landlord and Dare County.
4)
If you have small children with you, keep the door alarms that lead to
the pool area armed whenever the pool is unattended. Never leave children in or near the pool and spa unattended by an adult.
5) Use only unbreakable dishes and glasses poolside. A supply of these can be found in the Billiard Room kitchen.
6)
Use the valet cart and elevator, not the stairs, for carrying luggage,
groceries, and trash. Remember, the elevator won’t move in either
direction unless both doors are closed securely. Unaccompanied young children are not permitted to use the elevator.
7)
Jacuzzis and spa are for adults and responsible older kids only.
Besides the obvious safety hygiene concerns, there is a hygiene factor
of which many parents and grandparents are unaware. The jets can
give an enema to a squirming preschooler - uh-oh!
8) Our Garland
stove is a professional chef’s stove, and, although a dream to cook on,
it must be respected. Read the “Stove Use” card located at the
stove. Designate one person in your group as Chef to help others
use and care for the stove.
9) Do not open the windows more than 10”.
If you leave the Cottage, even briefly, close all the windows and
doors. Always lock the window latches fully (you’ll hear a
click). If you do not lock the windows fully, they may leak and
damage the Cottage. Please check the doors and windows when a storm blows up.
10)
Fresh water is a precious commodity on Hatteras, as on most
islands. Enjoy your shower, but please be careful not to waste
water by letting the water run unnecessarily long.
11) The dunes
between the pool fence and the beach are National Park Service
property. It is illegal to walk on the dunes and sea oats. Please use the boardwalk. Don’t hesitate to speak up to others about protecting our dunes.
12)
No parking is allowed on the street or front lawn. Parking boat
trailers, camping trailers, or mobile home vehicles on the premises is
prohibited by Hatteras Landing Homeowners Association.
13) Indoor furniture is not to be moved (excepting the side-chairs). Bringing rental furniture into the Cottage is prohibited.
14)
All cottages on Hatteras Island have septic systems, not sewers.
They serve well if we don’t give them “indigestion” by flushing
inorganic items other than toilet paper. Hygiene products labeled
“flushable” are not “digestible” by septic tanks. Don’t flush
them; dispose of them in the wastebasket. Do not pour grease into
the sinks.
15) The Cottage and the entire property is a non-smoking environment.
16) The gas grill at poolside is the only grill permitted. Do not use charcoal grills. Use the outside stairs to bring cooked food upstairs.
17)
Treat stains as they occur on carpet, rugs or upholstery. You’ll
find a “Capture Spot and Stain Remover” in the kitchen pantry.
18) Do NOT carry beach or fishing gear through the Cottage. Use the garage doors.
19)
Garbage pickup days are early Monday and Thursday mornings. If
lids are securely closed and winds are calm, you may put the garbage
containers at curbside the night before.
20) Life on Hatteras is
beautiful for people, but very hard on systems and equipment. If
you have a problem with these at the Cottage, please report the problem
by calling Russ Cauff, the Cottage Manager, at 216-8736. We will do our
best to take care of the problem as quickly as possible; however,
because of the remoteness of the Cottage, delays should be
expected. There will be no rebates or discounts in the event of a
system or equipment failure.
21) Pets are NOT permitted.
22)
“Subletting” the Cottage is not permit. Some of your family and guests
may be unable to remain for the entire period, and others may replace
them. However, all will be your own guests.
23) Check-in time is 5 - 6 P.M. on Saturday.
Check-in must be by the Tenant. The Tenant will be required to
sign an authorization and present an approved credit card to reimburse
for any damages to the premises, or expense incurred from improper
check-out.
24) Check-out time is on Saturday by 10 A.M.
Please help our housekeepers by starting the dishwasher, emptying the
trash, and double checking for personal items before departure.
